Starting with the February 21, 2024 quarterly meeting, Gateway to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) Hub will take over backbone support for the YEG Workforce Development Group. EndPovertyEdmonton previously provided backbone support and will remain a member of the group.
Formed in January 2021, the group encompasses eight employment service organizations (and growing) and hopes to drive system and policy changes in the areas of workforce development and employment supports. This would lead to more qualified participants in the workforce, and more work opportunities for people who have previously been underrepresented in the workforce.
The YEG Workforce Development Group focuses on issues like:
Demand driven services and programming
Perspectives of underrepresented job seekers
Perspectives of employers hiring underrepresented workers
Developing Inclusive hiring practices and workplaces
Disability in the workplace, disclosure and accommodation
The group is a one-of-a-kind place where employment service organizations can meet, share initiatives and ideas, and collaborate on issues around inclusion in the workforce.
The group’s next meeting will take place on February 21, 2024 at Norquest College. Organizations interested in participating can find more details on the Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/yeg-workforce-development-first-quarterly-meeting-2024-tickets-810431722097
